The Challenge
Western Connecticut is home to some of the state’s most diverse communities, ranging from small rural towns to large urban cities. The Western Connecticut Council of Governments (WestCOG) was formed and tasked with acting as a regional facilitator, working to unify its member communities around a common vision for the region.
To achieve this, WestCOG required a comprehensive organizational assessment coupled with the development of the organization’s first strategic plan, mission, and vision statements. The organization, its council, and member communities would then use these deliverables as a roadmap to help inform future strategic initiatives and services.
WestCOG wished to develop a plan that was inspiring in its visionary elements, but also achievable through the development of concrete strategies and tasks that it and its many stakeholders could realistically execute in the near term.
The Solution
WestCOG hired Camoin Associates to facilitate and develop a comprehensive strategic plan and the organization’s mission/vision to inform the organization’s future growth and initiatives.
To complete the project, Camoin Associates undertook a variety of initiatives, including a robust stakeholder outreach effort, organizational and governance best practices research, an internal and external organizational assessment, and the facilitation of multiple staff and council workshops.
The Impact
The result of this work was a five-year (2022-2027) strategic vision and plan that now serves as WestCOG’s operational road map, complete with actionable strategies for achieving the organization’s top-line goals.
