9 Reasons Why We All Need a Little More Entrepreneurship in Our Lives by Christa O. Franzi, CEcD. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to be entrepreneurial. Being and acting entrepreneurial is a mindset, a way of being — problem-solving, collaborating, testing, learning, taking risks, and failing, either at work or in your personal life. Entrepreneurship is, as the kids say, a vibe. You don't need a fancy title or a startup to channel that energy. I try to (and I encourage my colleagues, family, and friends to) embrace the entrepreneurial spirit, to think outside the box, to push boundaries, and to tackle challenges head-on. Here are just a few of the reasons why: 1. Entrepreneurship drives growth. Personal growth, community growth, and of course economic growth. 2. Entrepreneurs create jobs for themselves, their families, and their communities. 3. Economic equity is created through entrepreneurship. If you help someone get a job, you can change their life. If you help someone create a job, you can transform an entire community. 4. Most of the skills and knowledge our kids will need in the future workforce don’t exist today. The only way they will succeed in the future workforce is to be able to adapt, solve problems, think creatively, take risks, etc. To teach them these skills, we need to surround our kids with entrepreneurs. 5. Downtowns and main streets thrive when entrepreneurs invest in them. Happy downtowns anchor healthy communities. 6. Being entrepreneurial means being curious and having a rich life filled with constant learning. 7. Entrepreneurship empowers individuals to take control of their destinies, pursue their dreams, and make a positive impact. 8. Entrepreneurs have an infectious energy that surrounds them and that we all want to be a part of. Hang out in a business incubator for a day and you’ll get what I mean. 9. Entrepreneurs are problem solvers, and we have a lot of problems to solve. I’ve dedicated my career to reducing barriers to entrepreneurship for anyone with a good idea and a willingness to pursue it. I believe that entrepreneurs will solve the world’s problems and it’s my mission to help those problem solvers succeed. That is why I recently joined Right to Start, the national nonprofit organization advancing entrepreneurship as a civic priority.
